Way back in September, we helped get this project to the finish line. Just a straight forward day project for a budding gardener and her soon-to-arrive shed. • With a design on the fly approach and a little pre-planning, this tiny back yard and long side paths turned out nice! • Still, you’d be surprised at how many materials are needed for a one day project. Sometimes just as many as a 2 week project. Steel edging, gravel, more gravel, stepping stones, soil blend, compost, plants, mulch, and cedar chips. When you have a design that needs a rain garden, but your budget restricts you to just one part of the design, you definitely get the rain garden built first. • Placed far enough away from the foundation, with the right slope, and a few water-loving plants, rain gardens can add a fun element to any garden. This old Portland home was desperately wanting to be shared with the neighborhood and now it can shine! • After the client did the demo, we got in there and placed 2.5 tons of boulders and oodles of drought tolerant, heat loving plants. Geewhiz this was a fun one! • A very old Mimosa tree that caused a whole lot of problems eventually was taken down from the back left corner…. Final phase done on this mostly established woodland garden (check out those ferns!). • Last year we did the front yard, then Dan came in and built some beautiful steps and a sweet circular seating area in the backyard, then they built that gorgeous Cedar fence….and THEN we got in there and finished it all up with a gardener’s footpath, a lot of plant improvements, simplified the lava rock a bit (client wanted to keep all of it 😳), and added some much needed drip irrigation.
